The airscale indicates the amount of air bubbles which enables a slow sand movement creating mountain landscapes. You can take out a bit of air to speed up the sand movement which will create dunes. You can add some more air to let the sands move extremely slow and sometimes the sands will even stop moving with more air than indicated.
