How often can you turn your sand art?
The more often, the better is the rule. A sand picture must be turned regularly to prevent from sand deposits on the glass panes or clumping of the sand.
Does the sand completely mix after some time?
Each sand colour has a different weight. That’s why the colours are separating no matter how often you turn the sand art.
How does a sand art work?
It is simply explained: between two sheets of glass panes, water, sand and air are filled. Sand is heavier than water and therefore it’s falling to the bottom. The heavier the sand grain, the faster it drops. But first the sand has to filter through a layer of air bubbles. Air is lighter than water, therefore it is emerging, thus preventing the sands from free falling. Sands are dripping slowly to the bottom and settle there as layers. Those layers will appear because heavier sands will fall faster than lighter sands.
Will a sand art always create the same formations?
That’s impossible, because the air barrier will open up at random places and allow different amounts of sands to filter through. With a fast run the results will look like dunes. A slowly moving sand will create mountain ranges. Feel free to manipulate the way you want and create fantasy images or special shapes landscapes.
Why does the amount of air in a sand art change?
Water evaporates. That’s natural. The evaporated water will automatically replaced by air. After a while the amount of air in the picture is too big and the sands cannot anymore penetrate the air barrier. You can regulate the amount of air. See our tutorials.
Can the air be regulated?
Of course you can. Each of our sand arts is coming with injector, needle, airscale and instruction manual. Regulate the amount of air to achieve different results.
Is there an manual?
Yes, it comes with every KB sand art. You can also go to the Info area and download a pdf. Mind that not everything you read in our instructions is useful for products from other companies.
Will the picture leak once I have injected?
Each piece comes with a special thin needle which you can use 20 – 30 times at each airhole. Normal needles are too thick and will hurt the sealant. Therefore only use the needles we recommend or provide in our shop.
What is the lifetime of a KB sand art?
It needs your care, means: turn it frequently, if you don’t use it for a while, store it flat; refill water when needed. With your care your KB sand art can survive for decades!
Does the atmospheric pressure have influence to the sand art?
The differences of pressure are so minimal, they have more or less no influence to the function of a sand art. Even in high elevations your sand art will work.
What happens if a sand art freezes?
Nothing happens. The glass panes are flexible and the give way for the frozen water. BTW, it is a real spectacle if you turn a frozen sand art. Water starts thawing and sand moves through clusters of ice. A fantastic version.
Are sand arts stress relieving?
Sure they are. Watching the moving sands creates alpha waves in your brain, which are taking you into a calm but yet concentrated state. Try it!
Can a sand art be fixed to the wall?
The Movie series are designed to be hung on a wall. They come with a turning mechanism Sandman has developed. Never take it off the wall, just turn it around.
