KB The Sandman

In 1986 I held a sandpictures in my hands for the first time, thanks to my good friend Werner Pieper. At that time only a few quite raw versions were available, either with water without air bubbles, containing 3 different sands or such with only 2 different sands and air bubbles. Both types had high potential for improvement and I started finding the secrets of sand art with the target to create them by myself. I visualized sands with all the colours of the rainbow, therefore I called my creations ‘Rainbow Vision Sandpicture’ from 1987 – 2014. After only 2 years of researching and testing I achieved the first goal, creating colourful sandblends, containing 4 different sand colours. Soon I was able to mix 5 different sands. Luckily I never went to copy anyone elses technique. I found out everything by myself. Hence I found a completely different recipe, which still is different from all other producers.
Every day I am thinking about improvements, try and test new materials to make new creations.
That tireless research builds the base for the beauty, quality and durability of the KB collection and the KB masterpieces.

Let’s move on

The achieved knowledge about function, technique and fineness in sand art is most important when it comes to large, huge or giant sizes.
The balance between elements and forces inside a large sand art is so delicate that the tiniest aberration can make a sand art useless. It might move too fast or is will frequently stop during the flow. To get to that balance takes up to one entire week of intense work.

A further aspect is the durability of a sand art. In my show room you can find sandpictures from the early 1990ies. They still work!
When it comes to designer pieces, artworks or installations starting at 2,000 Euros, the owner wants to be sure his investement will keep on functioning.
