The art of the Australian aborigines has a history of over 30,000 years. The central theme is depiction of ‘dreamtime’. The Navajo Indians had to build and destroy a sand art within one single day, so it could unfold its healing energy. With special tools Buddhist monks lay huge sand mandalas made from lose sand, mixed with colour powders. The ceremony can take several days. In the end the broom destroys the image and the sand is an offer for the spirit.
The Japanese tray-painting called Bonseki had been used for religious ceremonies.
Sure there’s a lot more to discover.
