From 1986 to 1988 Sandman ran a test lab to find out basics about moving sand art. In February 1988 he launched his first production. His first workshop was stereotypical in a garage, the connected basement and a bathroom with a tub in an 80 years old house. Only a few month later it was necessary to enlarge the space and he leased a space in the Sandhofstreet (means sand court street). This time in a 160 years old building where Sandman’s studio grew step by step, adapting the basement, a barn, a garage, a carport – at one point each vacant space was occupied. In 2011 the company moved into the Sand Factory. This time a factory building from the 1950ies. On slightly more than 5,000 sqaure feet surface you now find production, shipping, storage and office space, everything on one level, enabling a smooth work flow.
